Unlike the lighter styles of massage - Swedish Massage or Relaxation Massage - Deep Tissue Massage is a massage style that dives deep into the layers of muscle and fascia to loosen muscle tightness, free up scar tissue, and restore normal muscle function.

How Does It Work?
Your therapist will use firm pressure with their hands, forearms, elbows, or specific tools to really work the deepest tissues of your body to release tension and restore natural blood and lymph flows. To assist with the effectiveness of the treatment, deep breaths help as it promotes oxygen flow into the body, which can help with relaxing tight muscles.
Is It For Me?
It is best to have that discussion with your therapist as they will give you an indication of whether you need a deep tissue massage or not. After an initial consultation and assessment, it may be recommended to have a deep tissue massage for parts or all of your treatment.
What Are The Benefits?
Deep tissue massage usually focuses on a specific problem, such as chronic muscle pain, injury rehabilitation, and the following conditions:
Low back pain
Limited mobility
Recovery from injuries (e.g. whiplash, falls)
Repetitive strain injury, such as carpal tunnel syndrome
Postural problems
Muscle tension in the hamstrings, glutes, IT band, legs, quadriceps, rhomboids, upper back
Osteoarthritis pain
Sciatica
Piriformis syndrome
Tennis elbow
Fibromyalgia
Upper back or neck pain
What Some Have Said
According to a Consumer Reports magazine, 34,000 people ranked deep tissue massage more effective in relieving osteoarthritis pain than physical therapy, exercise, acupuncture, diet, and other various methods of treatment.
People often notice improved range of motion immediately after a deep tissue massage.
Remember... drink plenty of water before and after a deep tissue massage to maximise results and aid in flushing out the metabolic waste products from the muscle tissue.
